Getting Started

What does Tonnta mean?

Tonnta is the Gaelic (Irish) word for waves.

We chose this name because heart tracking is intrinsically tied to rhythms—the electrical waves of your heart and the natural ebb and flow of health. Even the sound of the word, Tonn-ta, echoes the rhythmic lub-dub (S1/S2) beating of the heart.

Just as waves can be calm or turbulent, Tonnta is designed to help you navigate those rhythms with clarity and peace of mind.

How do I log my first AFib episode?

Tap the red "+" button on the home screen to instantly start logging an episode. The app will record the start time automatically. You can add details like intensity, triggers, and medications during or after the episode.

Do I need to create an account?

No! Tonnta works completely offline and doesn't require an account. Just download and start tracking. All your data stays on your device.

How do I add custom triggers, resolutions or medications?

Go to the Settings tab and tap "Triggers", "Resolutions" or "Medications" to add your own custom items.

Can I edit an episode after I've logged it?

Yes. Go to the Episodes tab, tap on any episode to view its details, then tap "Edit" to modify any information. You can change the date, time, intensity, triggers, resolutions, medications, or notes.

What do the intensity levels mean?

Intensity levels are subjective and help you track the severity of your episodes:

Mild: Noticeable symptoms but doesn't significantly impact daily activities

Moderate: Uncomfortable symptoms that affect your ability to function normally

Severe: Intense symptoms that may require rest or medication

Is there an Android version of Tonnta?

Tonnta is currently exclusive to iOS and iPadOS. We built it using Apple's latest native technologies to ensure the highest level of privacy and performance. There are no immediate plans for an Android version.

Features

Does the app work offline?

Yes! Tonnta works completely offline. You don't need an internet connection to log episodes, view your data, or generate reports.

What's the difference between the calendar and statistics views?

Calendar: Shows a visual overview of which days you had episodes, with color coding by intensity. Tap any day to see that day's episodes.

Statistics: Shows patterns and insights like total episodes, average duration, common triggers, and episodes per month. You can filter by time range (all time, this month, by year).

How does the doctor report work?

From the share button in Timeline or Stats configure the information that you would like to include in the report. Tap generate and the app creates a professional PDF with summary statistics and a detailed episode log that you can save and share with your cardiologist or healthcare provider.

How does Tonnta work with Apple Watch AFib features?

Tonnta is designed to complement automated tracking. While your Apple Watch is excellent at detecting rhythm changes, Tonnta is where you capture the human context.

When you receive an AFib notification from your watch, use Tonnta to log the qualitative details: what you were doing, potential triggers (like stress or caffeine), and how you felt. Combining Apple's precision with Tonnta's context gives you and your doctor a much more complete picture of your heart health.

Does the app integrate with Apple Health?

Currently, Tonnta stores data independently on your device. HealthKit integration may be added in the future as an optional feature.

How should I use standalone Notes?

Notes are standalone entries that live alongside Episodes in your timeline. They are perfect for logging information that isn't a heart event, such as:

  • Medication changes or new prescriptions
  • Doctor's visit summaries or lab results
  • Dietary changes or lifestyle adjustments
  • General health observations or stress levels

You can search for both Episodes and Notes using the search bar at the top of your Timeline.

Data & Export

Where is my data stored?

All your data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. Nothing is sent to external servers. You may optionally enable iCloud sync which allows you to backup your data to your personal iCloud account.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Export Data and choose:

Export Episodes (CSV): Creates a spreadsheet file you can open in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets

Generate Doctor Report (PDF): Creates a formatted report for sharing with healthcare providers. This report can also be accessed via the share button in Timeline and Stats

Can I import data from another app or from a spreadsheet I have been keeping?

Yes! If you have episode data in CSV format, go to Settings → Import Data. See the CSV Format Guide for details of the format.

How do I delete all my data?
  • Delete Individual Episodes: Swipe left or long press on any episode to delete it
  • Delete Local Data: Go to Settings → Manage Data → Delete All Data to remove all data stored on your device
  • Delete iCloud Data: Go to Settings → iCloud sync → Delete iCloud Data to delete any data backed up in your personal iCloud account
Will I lose my data if I get a new phone?

If you have enabled iCloud sync in Settings then a copy of your data is saved in your personal iCloud account. Your episodes should restore when you set up your new phone. We recommend exporting your data as a CSV before switching devices as an additional backup.

Troubleshooting

The app isn't behaving as expected.

We're here to help. If Tonnta is acting up, please try these steps to reset the environment:

1. Fully close the app from the app switcher and reopen it

2. Restart your iPhone to clear system cache

3. Check the App Store for any available Tonnta updates

If you're still seeing issues, please reach out via the contact button below. Your feedback helps us make the app better for everyone.

My episode duration seems incorrect.

Duration is calculated from start time to end time. For episodes that span multiple days (start at 11 PM, end at 2 AM), the duration reflects the full elapsed time. You can manually edit the duration field if needed.

I can't find a previous episode.

Use the search bar at the top of the Episodes tab to find episodes by keywords in your notes or triggers. You can also use the Calendar tab to navigate to specific dates. Episodes are stored permanently unless you delete them.

Can I sync data between iPad and iPhone?

Yes. Enable iCloud sync in the Settings page of both devices.
